Albert Smith Piers, one of Louisville's old-time news photogrpahers, died late Friday night in Miami, Fla. He was 82. Had lived in Florida since he left the Courier-Journal about 25 years ago. Previously had worked for the old Louisville Herald and The Herald-Post. Piers was also a commercial photographer here for many years in the days when photographers used flash powder for artificial light. The powder was later replaced by flash bulbs. After he left Louisville, Piers worked as a photographer for the Roney-Plaza Hotel in Miami, The Miami Herald, and The Miami Beach News. In recent years he lived with a brother, T. J. Piers, in Miami Beach.
