Wife was dau. of John & Barbara; he lived in Blackford Co. since 1879 when he married. He was baptised in Christian Church but attended Lutheran after marriage. Member of MWA Lodge. Widely known in & about Hartford City as photographer and later did some carpentry work & raised stock on his farm, now the Mannix farm, SE of Hartford City. Lists survivors: wife, 4 children, brother Andrew of Huntington.

Hartford City News-Times, Nov. 30, 1968, p. 6 "History Can be Found in Nelson Studio," by Ed Henderson. Photographs by Arnold McCombs. Article about Noble Ernest Nelson of Hartford City. Describes and shows photo of 8x10 inch, bellows camera which Ernie bought from the late photographer J. C. Adams before starting his studio (in 1912 or 1913). Its age is estimated at 75 years, and with it he has taken all of his portraits through the years.

(James) Adams operated a photographic studio in Hartford City from ca. 1893 to ca. 1907. The business was located at 401 South Jefferson Street from 1895 to 1903, and at 209 1/2 North Jefferson Street from 1905 to ca. 1916. He lived with his wife Mary, and son John at 438 East Patterson Street in Hartford City. Adams' occupation is listed as farmer in the 1916 Hartford City Directory. He died 21 September 1927 at the age of 71. John Adams is listed as a photographer in the 1906-07 Hartford City Directory, but his name does not appear in subsequent publications.
