Dealers and Manufacturers Exhibits, J. A. W. Bryant, La Porte, Indiana, made an attractive display of backgrounds, accessories and furniture. One of the best features of Mr. Bryant's display was an adjustable pony for posing children upon.

The St. Louis Photographer, Sept. 1883, p. 259:
J. W. Bryant displayed at 1883 PAA convention in Milwaukee; large and really good display. "the solid accessories were in much greater demand than the profiles, both of which were found in this collection." Oct. 1883, p. 320: mentions that J. W. Bryant was in a group photo of "The Stock Dealers throughout the US and Canadas"

The St. Louis Photographer, Dec. 1885, p. 347:
"Bryants Back Grounds and Accessories" article describes tree accessory with 4 movable limbs and circular seat, rustic fence and gate, reverse it and you have a stone wall. A double stump when reversed produces fine rock accessory, another rock serves as a baby holder, upright piano, cottage windows, boats, etc.  Mr. Bryant's factory is located in the beautiful city of Laporte at the junction of 4 railroads.  The building is 3 stories high and occupies 3,080 ft. of ground space.  About 20 painters are employed on back grounds and accessories.  Mr. Bryant has in running order a 1st class photograph gallery, and visiting brethren are cordially invited to inspect both gallery and factory.

St. Louis and Canadian Photographer, Aug. 1895, p. 373, J. W. Bryant & Company, of La Porte, IN are sending out durable oil extended backgrounds, which do away with the floor line, and places the subject in the room, or landscape, thus making a perfect picture.  Bryant & Co. also handle a full line of accessories.

St. Louis and Canadian Photographer, Oct. 1895, p. 493-94:
J. W. Bryant & Co., of La Porte, IN have disposed of their background department to Wair & Barnes of same city. Messrs. Wair & Barnes are considered two of the best artists of the times. J. W. Bryant & Company's new line will be a variety of hard, highly finished papier-mâché articles for general use, such as paper bicycle rims, spectacle cases, and fancy toilet cases, etc. They will, no doubt, in the near future, manufacture photographic trays.  They have the best wishes for success in their new line from the St. Louis and Canadian Photographer,

20th Century History and Biographical Record of La Porte, Co., p. 753: Hiram P. Barnes moved to La Porte in April 1879 and entered employ of J. W. Barnes owner of papier mache factory. In 1895 Hiram P. Barnes and E. G. Wair bought out business of John W. Bryant; in Dec. 1900 Barnes bought out Wair and has been in business alone.
