a Godfrey family history, p. 48 [Copies were provided by Gordon M. Fletcher of 1760 Rogue River Rd., Belmont, MI 49306, Mar. 1995.  He did not provide full citation.  The Godfrey book credits Edson H. Mudge's "Andrew Mudge and His Descendants - 1943" Edson was bro. of Elliott M. Mudge]: Elliott age 7 when family migrated to Newaygo Co. where he lived on the pioneer farm for 14 yrs. Played violin in youth. In 1884 went to Elkhart to join bro. Marion in photograph business and learn the art from him.  The next yr. he became full owner of business. Operated his studio continuously for 59 yrs and is still turning out fine specimens. Is the dean of Elkhart business men. m. wife at Three Rivers, MI. Acquired suburban real estate, profitable investment.
