article on Barrows--he spent about 3 yrs. as architect; in 1876 he engaged in photography; 3 yrs. after turning his attention to the art he came to Ft. Wayne, and was until 1882 in partership with Francis H. Clayton, under the firm name of Clayton & Barrows. At the latter date Barrows purchased the entire business and 4 yrs. later Mr. Clayton d. at Chattanooga, TN....Socially he is one of most popular men of city.

Wayne, having bought out the Barrows studio in 1901, which in turn had by purchase acquired the negatives and business of the Shoaff studio back in 1892. MR. BARROWS LEAVES. Frank R. Barrows, the well known photographer, today turned over his business to George Parrot, formerly of this city, but recently located at Wabash. Mr. Barrows left today for Dorchester, near Boston, where he has purchased an excellent business. The hosts of friends of Mr. Barrows will wish him every success in his new field, while greatly regretting his departure from this city. Mr. Parrot is very well known here, having been in business in this city several years ago, his studio having been located in the MacDougal block.

Builders of Greater Fort Wayne, p. 757: Bio of Felix Schanz: After 3 years in New York City (late 1870s) and a few months of electrical fitting in Ft. Wayne, the "hoped for opportunity came, and he [Schanz] made a contract with Frank R. Barrows, an association which lasted three years, after which for another three years he conducted for Mr. Barrows the Star Photograph Gallery." [ca. 1880-Nov. 1886 when he opened his own gallery]

Pictorial History of Fort Wayne, Indiana, 1917, Griswold, v. II, p. 500-02 Bio of Felix Schanz: In autumn of 1881 Schanz came to Ft. Wayne and for short time did electrical work, then became associated with the photographic business of F. R. Barrows, with whom he remained 3 yrs. For the ensuing 3 yrs. He was connected with the Star photograph gallery and then opened a studio of his own, in rooms above the old Eckart meat market, on Calhoun street, the site now occupied by the Frank dry-goods store.
